I moved across the country and started over—Took some time to reorient and to discover what I really wanted in my life.

One day I was in the gym doing martial arts based drills. Movement has always grounded me and I loved the familiarity of it. The repetition was my meditation.

I was doing a drill where I started by lying flat on my back on the floor and then got up quickly in a ready to fight stance. I did it over and over. 

From the mat. Flat on my back.

To standing and ready.

The more I did it, the more I sprang up with momentum and fresh energy. I started playing with it and feeling my own strength and ability. 

I realized that life had knocked me flat on the mat, but I could stand myself up. A new resolve washed over me.

I started feeling like hell yeah, I’ve got this.

I can stand myself up on my own two feet.

I’m strong. I’m capable. I've got this.

That exercise became a regular in my routine and every time I did it I connected with something new and cemented something in myself about strength.

The pieces of a puzzle started coming together.

All of my years of athletic training, owning a gym, teaching karate and working with hundreds of women. 

The a-ha moment

It started to gel in my mind. I saw the connection across all of it. From my physical training to the hard lessons that life was serving up for me.

That aha discovery fired me up to live a life of my own design from a place of personal power. It supercharged my confidence and my energy.

Long story short, a few years later I met the love of my life and now I live a life I love.

Now I choose strength any day and every day. No more going back to small for me.
